Available since 2013, the innovative ONCOblot blood test identifies the existence of malignant cancer cells in such small numbers that it is easy to destroy them before they grow into a clinically significant cancer. The test works by detecting ENOX2 proteins, which are produced only by cancer cells, and then shed into the circulation. By identifying where in the body the ENOX2 proteins originated, ONCOblot can tell us where the cancer is. Because the proteins become detectable when the malignant cells reach 2 million — which is extremely low compared with other screening techniques — ONCOblot is becoming a much more powerful tool than traditional screening methods.
The ONCOblot test can detect the presence of dozens of cancers, including: bladder, breast, cervical, colorectal, endometrial, esophageal, kidney, leukemia, liver, lung, lymphoma, melanoma, mesothelioma, myeloma, ovarian, pancreatic, sarcoma, stomach, thyroid, and uterine.
